Study gives warning about fast-food meat

Some of the country's most popular restaurants are getting failing grades for using meat with antibiotics, according to a new study by consumer advocacy groups.

KIRO , Sep 16, 2015

Starbucks is one of 20 restaurants that got a failing grade.

The study said that the restaurants had no disclosed policy on antibiotics, or a policy to limit them.

Other restaurants that received failing grades include Papa John's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Subway, Domino's, Taco Bell, Wendy's and Burger King.

However, restaurants like Panera Bread and Chipotle got A grades, because they report that the majority of the meat they serve doesn't have any antibiotics.

Chick-fil-A received a B grade.

Two years ago, the chain said that it's making a commitment to using meat with no antibiotics, but the switch will take time.

The study called Chain Reaction was put together by several consumer advocacy and environmental groups.

It argues that human antibiotics in meat has contributed to the rise of superbug' bacteria that resists medicine and can lead to epidemics.

Starbucks responded to the report, saying it's working to the address the issue of antibiotics with its suppliers.
