Spice overdose epidemic in Florida leaving people in stupefied states

Investigators in Clearwater, Florida, have unveiled about an alarming rise in synthetic marijuana overdose calls.

Upon visiting, people are found in stupefied states mimicking scenes from the 'The Walking Dead' show.

As per the Florida investigators, people could hardly talk or move. The scene is quite common, said the police, when they are patrolling through Crest Lake Park. The investigators said that this happening due to a batch of synthetic marijuana known as spice.

Some residents, who are regular visitors of the park, said that they saw a man screaming so loud that they called the police. The police shared that dozens of calls have been received in the past week.

People have been found in quite bad situations. In some cases, they have to be straight away taken to hospitals for treatment for the suspected spice overdose. The investigators are not sure, but affirmed that the epidemic could be related to a number of cases in Tampa, where spice manufacturers are known to drastically change the ingredients of the drugs to a level that users do not have any idea what actually they are smoking.

Major Eric Gandy of the Clearwater Police Department said, "The spike that we're seeing and my personnel are dealing with on the road are unprecedented. Looked like one of our zombie movies ... I had 15 people walking around in various states of incapacitation".

Police has termed the rise in spice overdose has horrific. Hospitals are witnessing increasing number of overdose cases and doctors struggle to provide their best care and treatment with increasing number of patients.

Police spokesman Rob Shaw was of the view said that the surge has become a serious drain on resources for the police department, fire department and doctors. The situation has become quite tense.
